🛒 DoorDash to buy Instacart for $17B
LINK
|
- DoorDash has agreed to buy Instacart in a cash-and-stock deal that values the grocery-delivery company at about $17 billion, announced yesterday as it pushes to compete with Amazon and Walmart in online grocery.
- The offer of $65 a share is a 26% premium to Instacart's closing price last Thursday, with at least three-quarters paid in cash; Instacart's board unanimously approved it.
- The deal gives Instacart customers access to more than 50,000 additional stores and would merge the DashPass and Instacart+ memberships into one fee; DoorDash shares rose 9% in premarket trading in New York.

💸 Hackers steal record $6.3B from Binance
LINK
|
- Hackers stole $6.3 billion from Binance, the world's largest crypto exchange, in what analysts call the biggest cryptocurrency theft on record, with two US tracing firms saying they are highly confident North Korea was responsible.
- Most of the funds drained in about 20 minutes starting late Thursday after attackers got Binance's wallets to empty into their own, possibly via a hacked engineer's laptop; the exchange has located roughly $3 billion but hasn't accounted for the other $3.3 billion.
- Bitcoin fell to a six-week low of $76,368 and Binance's BNB token slid 5%, while Coinbase dropped 4.8% despite saying it was unaffected; co-CEO Richard Teng said company funds will cover every loss beyond Binance's $1 billion reserve.

💻 Intel drops 16% on weak PC forecast
LINK
|
- Intel shares fell about 16% in extended trading on Thursday after the company forecast weaker-than-expected fourth-quarter results, blaming a continued slump in the global PC market.
- For the current quarter, Intel guided to revenue of $15 billion to $16 billion, below analysts' expectations, with finance chief David Zinsner warning the PC slowdown will last at least through the first half of next year.
- The outlook also absorbs a roughly $600 million revenue hit over two quarters from an explosion at an Israeli fab that killed two workers; even so, the stock remains up about 150% this year despite its October decline on AI-spending concerns.

🏠 Thrive to buy security firm ADT for $7.6B
LINK
|
- Thrive Holdings, the private-equity arm of Josh Kushner's Thrive Capital, is buying physical-security firm ADT for $10 a share, with the deal valued at about $7.6 billion in equity.
- Thrive counts OpenAI as both partner and investor, with OpenAI supplying AI models and engineers to Thrive's portfolio of more than 75 companies, which it aims to hold long-term and revamp with AI; ADT is slated to anchor its smart-home security business.
- Neither firm detailed the AI security products planned, but the move lands as rivals crowd the field: Apple just launched smart-home and security gear with LG and Schneider Electric, and Amazon has refreshed its line with new AI-powered cameras.

☁️ Earnings report reveals Amazon cloud surge, profit miss
LINK
|
- Amazon shares fell roughly 6.5% after hours yesterday as a strong showing from its AWS cloud unit was overshadowed by weaker retail and advertising sales, with revenue and earnings both coming in just below analyst estimates.
- AWS revenue grew 39.3% from a year earlier to $45.98 billion, its fastest pace in nearly five years, but investors wanted more after rivals Microsoft and Alphabet posted strong cloud numbers on Wednesday night, and Amazon's core online stores and high-margin ad business fell short.
- With capital spending of about $77 billion in the quarter and free cash flow now at negative $42.4 billion over the past year, the market has turned skeptical about returns on heavy AI infrastructure outlays, and holiday-quarter sales and profit guidance also came in slightly below what the Street expected.
